In August of 2016, it was discovered in Mulberry, Florida, that Mosaic, a company manufacturing fertilizer had somehow triggered the formation of one of the largest sinkholes in the recent past. Just yesterday, Mosaic announced that the sinkhole was one hundred and fifty-two feet wide and two hundred and twenty feet deep. It’s not the size of the sinkhole that’s concerning the property owners nearby, though. It’s the fact that two hundred and fifteen million gallons of radioactive gypsum water was released into the area. Now, phosphogypsum is a process where a product that’s created through the formation of fertilizer using gypsum—phosphogypsum is actually radioactive to low levels, but some people think low levels of radioactive material in their water are okay. I have news for you. Most of my clients who’ve already reached out to us disagree.
